The rains have also give birth to some of the most fascinating waterfalls. There are also a number of caves drenched in enigmatic beauty just waiting for you to come and explore them. In fact, some of these caves are the longest in Asia.

The culture of Meghalaya is also quite rich. There are three major tribes here. They are the Jaintia, Garo and Khasi tribes. The handicrafts of the state are also quite famous. The rugged landscape of Meghalaya has become a hotspot for exciting adventure sports.

Cherrapunji : A Rainy Day

Nested amidst the edge of the glorious Khasi Hills, Cherrapunji is an enchanting place. Beautiful clouds roll around in this lovely place. The small town is seemingly carved out of a plateau and is extremely picturesque. Cherrapunji offers you a scene of pristine beauty. The hills are landscape with thick forests of pines that are dissected by white streamlets running down through innumerable stunning waterfalls.

Once upon a time, Cherrapunji had the honor of being the wettest place on earth. It even held the record in the Guinness Book of World Records. Unfortunately, it has lost that position to the neighboring Mawsynram. However, that does not mean that you can expect sunny skies. You should be ready to get wet when you visit Cherrapunji.

Mawsynram : Wet Wetter Wettest

Given the crown of the wettest place on earthy, the village of Mawsynram is a paradise for nature lovers. Of course, you can enjoy the furious rains as well. It grabbed the title from Cherrapunji quite recently.The immense rainfall has helped in creating a culture that is inherently unique and dependent on the rains. The rainfalls are quite intense here and can evoke a range of emotions. Thick grass is used by the villagers to soundproof their huts against the beating of the rains.

The rains have also helped in the creation of enchanting waterfalls that dot the hilly landscape. Shades of blue and green are common here. Thick forests of multiple shades of green cover the land adding another layer of enchantment. There are bridges here made by the living roots of the trees. The bridges look amazing while the turbulent waters of the mountain streams rush below.
